Sunil Tandon / Managing Trustee
Sunil Tandon is a firm believer in spiritual evolution of one’s self, through selfless “giving”. This faith inspired Sunil to get together with some friends to start Koshika. Sunil was President & Managing Director of Apollo International, a part of Apollo Tyres group in India. Having worked in different commercial roles at Apollo for about 19 years, Sunil gained experience in International business development, corporate development, new start-up ventures, technology transfer, managing companies and overseeing diverse businesses at the Board level.In 2004, Sunil’s successful career was interrupted by his wife’s illness when he decided to leave Apollo. Thereafter, he started an entrepreneurial venture, which allowed him to devote more time to the family. After graduating as a Mechanical Engineer from Delhi College of Engineering (1975 batch), Sunil went on to acquire an MBA with top honours & a gold medal from FMS (1977 batch), University of Delhi.
Anil Sachdev / Trustee
Anil Sachdev’s burning desire to serve the country propelled him into the Indian Army. The same code of rendering service to others brought him to become one of the founding Trustees of Koshika. Anil brings his special abilities of connecting, communicating and collaborating to build enduring relationships. Joining the Army in 1976, in the Corps of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Anil held various Staff , Command and Instructional appointments including as Director of Technical Studies ( Officers Technical Staff course) at the prestigious Institute of Armament Technology at Pune. Opting to take premature retirement, as a Lt. Colonel, from the Army, Anil started in his new avtar of an entrepreneur in 1997. He established Astra Consultants, an HR Placement and Consulting services organisation, specialising in Head-hunting senior IT and Software professionals in corporations in India and abroad. Anil is a Mechanical Engineer from the Delhi College of Engineering (1975 batch). While in the Army, Anil successfully attended sponsored courses leading to M.Tech in Thermodynamics & Heat Engines and Post Graduate Diploma in Management.
Somesh Sehgal / Trustee
Somesh Sehgal’s determination and devoted hard work have helped him carve a niche for himself, in India’s Power sector. After climbing to the top rungs of the corporate ladder, Somesh’s desire to give back to the Society, has been ever growing. Somesh has successfully taken on many techno-commercial roles, during the last four decades, in one of the leading Indian MNCs in the Global Power Industry. As Head of the Transmission & Distribution (T & D) segment, Somesh leads his Company’s business globally. He specializes in TQC, TQM, International operations, mergers & acquisitions, technology transfer and project management. Somesh has represented the Country and his Industry in various overseas delegations and is a member of various Inter-Ministerial Committees of Government of India on Skill Building and Power Sector reforms. He is currently the member of Executive Council of IEEMA and Chairman of T&D sector of IEEMA. Somesh is an Electrical Engineer from the Delhi College of Engineering (1975 batch), with specialization in Power Systems. He has also undergone many executive post graduation Management Programs from elite institutes like IIM Ahemdabad & JUICE Japan.
Arun Agarwal/Kolkata Chapter
Arun's empathy with the needy brought him into Koshika's fold. He has a positive outlook towards social causes and believes in the power of collective contribution. Arun was quick to lend his active support in furthering Koshika's efforts to bring Eye Care for the underprivileged to Kolkata. He helped in vetting the systems & operations in Kolkata, to ensure that funds being spent by Koshika were well utilized for the ultimate beneficiaries. Arun Agrawal is a self employed businessman with a commerce background and a knack for management. He joined his family business of deep tubewell construction at a young age, and worked his way through, almost single-handedly, to take the business beyond West Bengal. He enjoys reading, travelling and creative pursuits like singing and listening to old songs.
Anita Agarwal/Kolkata Chapter
Anita Agarwal is full of determination and good will. Once her two children were grown up and settled, she was determined to do something meaningfull in life. At an age when most ladies settle for a relaxed and retired life, she simply picked up her laptop and taught herself the art of paper quilling via YouTube videos. And then there was no looking back. She turned her paper quilling hobby into "Anisat Creations", teaching the craft to the needy class of women, thus giving them opportunities for an alternate means of income. She now has about three girls under her supervision. All the products are sold online. Be it cooking, social work, art and craft or simply tutoring her grandchildren in Hindi, she is committed and passionate about everything she does. Anita Agarwal joined Koshika Foundation in May 2016, as a member on the team of verifiers, interviewing the patients and their families, trying to determine their financial standings and pressures. Genuinely needy patients are shortlisted for help by Koshika. Anita is part of the team, which also spreads awareness, about the importance of follow-up checkups, among the patients.
Kavita Agarwal/Kolkata Chapter
One of the main motivators for commencement of Koshika's Kolkata chapter, Kavita has been very keen to first-hand help the underprivileged. She had a burning desire to help the needy & actually do something substantial & worthwhile to serve the underserved. She is key member of Kolkata operations of Koshika. She works tirelessly for the poor, visiting Koshika's partner hospital in Kolkata, every week, to meet the candidates for major eye surgeries, who seek financial assistance from Koshika. She brings invaluable insights in assessing the real need of the poor, and then ensuring that they receive the necessary assistance for restoration of their sight. A graduate in Commerce from R. D. Poddar College in Mumbai, she is Director (Operations) at The Corner Courtyard – a landmark boutique hotel & restaurant in Kolkata.
Harish Agarwal/Kolkata Chapter
Harish is the anchor for Koshika’s charitable Eye care programme in Kolkata. Driven by his empathy for the needy, and a sincere desire to give something back to the society, Harish was instrumental in bringing Koshika to Kolkata. Determined to make a difference for the underprivileged, Harish finds time to lend his support to the philanthropic cause, while successfully handling a large business and leading the Industry in various fora. He is CEO of Supreme & Co. Pvt. Ltd. (involved in providing a range of products, services and solutions for Electrical Transmission & Distribution and Telecom industry) and also Director of Web Spiders (I) Pvt. Ltd.
